Sanford-Springvale
We Build People Campaign
"Transforming our Community one Relationship at a time"

The Sanford-Springvale YMCA is more than just another workout facility. Our programs are designed to encourage members of our community to develop a strong body, mind and spirit. We reach out to the many vulnerable populations in our community regardless of their ability to pay.
Children:  We serve in excess of 3,500 members: 30% of those are children. The YMCA provides a wide range of activities that foster healthy children including teen clubs, sports programs, family events, service projects and leadership development programs.

Low Income Families: The YMCA is one of the largest providers of affordable child care in the Sanford-Springvale community. Last year, we offered high-quality child care to over 200 working families, of which 40% received some form of financial assistance.

Elderly:  The YMCA’s Trafton Center provides social and group exercise activities specifically designed to meet the needs of older adults to over 200 seniors in our community.

Disabled/Other:  We recognize the need for programs designed for developmentally disabled youth and adults. Working closely with organizations such as Waban, Creative Works Systems and Youth Alternatives, the YMCA offered programs such as water group therapy to 42 developmentally disabled people per month.

The YMCA was created by the local community to meet regional needs and is governed by a local board of community volunteers. Each year, we leverage our resources by partnering with other community organizations to meet the needs of area families.
Contributed Income:  We received over $100,000 of community support which directly funded assistance given to families who could not afford life changing YMCA programs.

Volunteer Hours: The YMCA mobilized 70 volunteers to serve the Sanford-Springvale region yielding nearly $10,000 worth of time given back to our community.

Youth Leadership:  The Leaders Club, comprised of 20 area youth, learn valuable leadership and life skills through mentorship and serving their community. Last year, members provided 50 hours of service the community.

Swimming Lessons:  We partner with town recreation departments to offer children swimming lessons. Last year, over 225 children took swimming lessons at the YMCA.

Place to belong:  Never underestimating the foundational need to belong, the YMCA offers services to over 15,000 people each year. Our programs are created to help people build self-confidence and encourage them to connect with others in our community.

youth_program_web.jpgYour gift truly does make a difference
Every contribution to our annual We Build People campaign, helps us provide program support and financial assistance to needy families. By partnering with the YMCA, your contribution goes far above simply impacting the bottom line. Your support truly makes a difference in the lives of people throughout our community. Given the challenging economic times, more families are in need of assistance. Last year, we met the needs of our community by offering over $100,000 in assistance to children and families that otherwise could not afford access to life changing programs at the YMCA. This year will be no different. Your contribution will enable us to meet that need and transform our community one family, one relationship at a time.
