YMCA Youth programs promote the positive development of young people through activities and experiences that address the developmental assets that all youth need to obtain: social, emotional, physical, and cognitive competencies.  Whether in youth sports or one of the many other programs, the YMCA is here to provide an environment where area youth can feel safe, have fun and build trusting relationships.

Youth Yoga 
Instructor: Betsy Baker
Relaxation, strengthening and stretching.  Youth will experience classic yoga poses designed to improve fitness, gain self-awareness and increase self-confidence. 
Ages 5-9: Monday  4:30-5:00 pm

Ukulele Lessons 
Instructor: Mark Regan
This beginning, small group ukulele class is a fun and upbeat introduction to playing music.  Students will learn traditional and contemporary songs. There will be emphassis on respect, a genuine love of music and the willingness to practice daily.  All skills learned in this class are transferable to the guitar.  Limited to five participants.

Ages 13 and up: Thursday  6:00-7:00pm

Kung Fu Kids 
Instructor: Si Fu Craig Taylor, 2nd degree black belt
This martial arts form for children will increase physical fitness, team building skills and mental concentration. Children will also work on understanding respect and taking responsibility for themselves.
Ages 5-8: Tuesday  6:45-7:15pm
Ages 9-12: Tuesday  7:15-7:45pm

3-D Book Creations
 
The children will review storybooks; discuss the main ideas, the characters, and their roles in the story.  They will write their own story and develop, design and create a book using 3-D and other materials.  The book, complete with cover and pages, will be assembled and shared.

Youth Tae Kwon Do
Rufilo Lawrance, 2nd degree black belt, National Gold Medalist
An introduction to Tae Kwon Do and development of basic skills. Learn self-discipline, integrity and respect.
Ages 5-7 Wednesday;  6:30-7:15pm
Ages 8-11 Wednesday; 7:15-8:15pm

Tumble/Nastics
Instructor: Julie-Rose Jarrett
Youth in the beginner and intermediate class will learn the fundamentals of stunts and tumbling and lead-up skills consisting of cartwheels, handstands, leaps, forward and backward rolls, and balance beam work. Participants in the older class will learn more advanced moves and floor routines.
Ages 4-6: Thursday  3:45-4:30pm
Ages 7-9: Thursday 4:30-5:15pm

Tales & Creations (Ages 3-5)                                                                                                                                                       
Following the reading of a book, children will participate in a na activity insipired by the story (craft, song or game)

Rainbow Martial Arts for Young Kids (Ages 4-6)
Mike Colpoys, trained in Kempo and Tae Kwon Do
This program exposes children to the basic componets of martial arts. Children will begin to control breathing, movement and behavior, while learning basic moves and gainng a greater awareness of their bodies. They will also build the foundation for forms, self-discipline and personal character.
Saturday; 10:15 - 11:00am

Kids Cooking (Ages 6-12)
Candy Mayhew
Kids will learn a fun, friendly, hands-on way to prepare healthy foods without an oven/stove.  Recipes will focus on cold cooking and use of small appliances.                        
Monday 5:30 - 6:30pm

Swim & Gym
Mike Colpoys
This movement class emphasizes motor skill development and fitness through fun physical activity.  The gym portion is followed by a 30 minute swim lesson.

Friday  Gym: 9:30-10:15am, Swim: 10:30-11:00am       Ages 3.5 - 7
 
Young Explorers
Paula Dyer
This is a hands-on class focusing on early childhood math and science experiences.  The children will study topics such as mixing colors, the five senses, bubbles, magnets and ice and water.  Activities will include patterning, matching, making graphs and lots of fun and messy experiments.  It is recommended participants wear play clothes or a smock.

Youth Dance

Children learn the basic dance techniques of ballet and tap combining rhythm, coordination, timing and style with choreograhped rountines. 
Ages 6+: Saturday  9:15-10:00am

Preschool Dance

This exciting class introduces preschoolers to dance and rhythmical movements.
Ages 3-5: Saturday  8:30-9:15am

Music and Movement  (Limited to 10 children)
Becky Tanguay
Participants will learn songs and activites that encourage development.  Children will sing, dance and use muscial instruments provided by the instructor.  The toddler class is an interactive experience for parent and children.

Tots in Motion
Irene Guzman
Creative movement, imagination and developmental structured activities allow preschool children to gain awareness of their bodies in motion while exploring language concepts and listening skills.  Parent participation required.
